Taj mahotsav is the most cherished festival of Agra, and is enjoyed by tourists from all over the world. Agra bursts into colorful splendors during the springtime, when a ten-day long carnival is held. During this carnival one gets to see a clear merger of Indian crafts and culture.
The ten day long festival is the Taj mahotsav and held every year in the month of February at Shilpgram, which is literally next door to the Tajamahal. Tajmahotsav attracts mass erodes of tourists every year. Tajmahotsav Agra is an explosion of colors, festivities, and traditional cuisine, dance, in short all that is integral to joy and exuberance.
Spectacular procession inspired by Mughal splendor commences the Taj mahotsav. The golden era of Mughal Darbars is recreated by the Bedecked elephants and camels, drum beaters, folk artists and master craftsmen. During this festival the rich heritage of Uttar Pradesh is put on display and the mighty Tajmahal comes to a new life.

ART AND CULTURE >
The environment during the Tajmahotsav is enlivened by the folk Artists, musicians, dramatics and other artists who gather at Agra. It becomes a great place for all those interested in knowing the art and culture of India.
On tour to Agra during the Taj mahotsav, one can enjoy open-air nautanki of Maharashtra. Folk performances from Bundelkhand and Kalbelia dances performed by artists from Rajasthan are also relished during Tajmahaotsav. ‘Sapera’ dance of Rajasthan is another folk dance. Folk music and poetry (shayari) is a major attraction amongst the tourists.

CRAFTS MELA >
The crafts mela during the Tajmahotsav is a major attractionamongst the tourists. Craftsmen and Artisans from all over India bring their exquisite works of art to sell them. The whole place during this festival becomes a small market. One can get handicrafts, antiques, woodwork, ivorywork and other specialty items of Uttar Pradesh.
Apart from marble inlay, which rules the festivities each year, the festival brings forth an array of other fine crafts. Well-wood carvings from Saharanpur, brass and other metal-ware from Moradabad, handmade carpets of Badohi, the blue pottery of Khurja, the Chikan work of Lucknow, the silk of Banares are also exhibited during the Taj festival. One can even shop for exquisitely carved wooden furniture.

DELICACIES AND CUISINE >
The food-festival is a major attraction of Taj festival, Chefs and specialty cooks of Uttar Pradesh gathers at Agra. During the festival Tajmahal Agra becomes a great hub for Bon Jouvers (foodies). Delicacies here are prepared from the oldest exponents that were used in the past era. One can relish the Mughlai cuisine, which is the main cuisine of the state. Other major delicacies include the Mughlai items of Lucknow, Vegetarian delight of Varanasi.
